The Hopkinsville Rotary Club’s Annual Rotary Auction is the most successful publicly-funded student loan program in the world. It is also the largest single Rotary Club fundraising project in all of Rotary International, which includes over 32,000 clubs in 200 nations worldwide. Yes, we are proud of and excited about this great community service project!
It started with a goat, and it grew! The Hopkinsville Rotary Club held its first live radio auction 74 years ago. One of the items, a goat, was resold numerous times. The proceeds of that effort were $3,558.38, and after just two auctions, the club had the opportunity to help 16 students from Christian County attend college.
In the past 74 years, the auction and student loan program have grown dramatically. The fund has provided over $11 million to area students to further their post high school education. Since 2012, the Rotary Scholars Program has helped over 1,500 students attend Hopkinsville Community College tuition free.
Hour Club donations are another way to support the auction. The amount of one Hour Club this year is $186, which reflects the current cost of one college credit hour at Hopkinsville Community College. Donations below one Hour Club are included in the “Goat Club” totals.
Your contribution will help us to reach our goal and provide deserving students with the assistance they need in order to further their education.
