The Hopkinsville Rotary Club has participated in various community service and special award programs in the past. The following list details a few of these activities. If you have questions, or have ideas for future community involvement, you may contact the Rotary office at (270)886-3034.
Academic All Stars
The Academic All Stars program recognizes Academic Achievers at middle and high school levels through a partnership with the Kentucky New Era and Todd County, Trigg County, and Caldwell County Rotary Clubs.
Jerry Claiborne Award
The Jerry Claiborne Student Athlete Award was established on November 7, 1990. It was the goal of the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville to honor a senior football player from each high school who most closely exemplifies the attributes of Coach Jerry Claiborne in the areas of academic achievement, citizenship, leadership and participation in school and social activities. Awarded annually to a senior football player from both Christian County and Hopkinsville High School, who in addition to participating in football, has also participated in at least one other sport. The recipients must have achieved at least a “B” average in school, demonstrated qualities of good citizenship and sportsmanship both within and outside of school, participated in multiple school activities and clubs, has demonstrated a capacity for leadership in athletics and in social and school activities and must have contributed in areas of service to his school, community and church. Recipients are selected by a committee at each school comprised of the Head Football coach, Athletic Director, Principal, Student Council Sponsor, Beta Club and/or NHS Sponsor and Senior Class Guidance Counselor. The Jerry Claiborne Award is officially presented each year at the Annual Rotary Auction Kick-Off Luncheon with each recipient receiving a $1,000.00 scholarship.
Speech Contest
The speech contest is an annual Rotary International event. High school students are nominated by teachers at their prospective schools, and our local competition takes place at one of the Rotary meetings. The Hopkinsville winner is then recognized and moves on to the district Rotary competition.
Stocking Stuffers
During this annual community project, the Rotary club partners with WHOP and the Salvation Army to provide large stockings (filled by Rotary members with games, toys, and candy) to children in need.
